the harder you try , the heavier your fall

just finished the 21km run yesterday. my first time
since i missed the aslc one due to an injury. never
figured my true time coz someone hit my watch
and it stopped, so i had to go by pace and considering
i was unprepared for the route, things went terribly.
i still got the medal but its no big deal since 10 000
probably did as well. looks like i can only console
myself with the fact that i did it despite an injury
but even then ego bruises are seldom easily soothed.

i must say that i love the experience of such a massive
race. i had company from the start to the end.
semi boxed in by the crowd i could only be as fast as
the next guy in front of me unless i expanded extra
energy to sidestep the crowd. only as good as our
environment until we rise above it? perhaps. willing
or able to put in the extra energy? it depends.
how much food stores? how much training? how much
water to inbibe during the race? some questions are
easier to answer than others, some have no definite
answers. inderdependent factors have to be scaled
while those concerning varying envionmental factors
are best tackled by a play-by-ear approach.

but one thing is for certain, if life resembles a massive
long distance race, then one is at his best running
against himself, and an empty road ahead with perhaps
a partner at the side.

some people i'd like you to meet

well these should give you some idea of the guys i work with

that's my training wing section. too bad the db guy aint there. 4th guy
from the right is posting out. and the guy next to me is trying hard
to lose weight.
thats my Advanced Section Leaders Course platoon commander in the
middle garang huh? hes the guy who charged me. but hey i'm still
able to get over it, thats why i'm the one with the biggest smile!
This is shaik. my buddy since ASLC. one hell of a funny guy. he's an
expert in the system and can spend his whole life hibernating.
he's taught me a lot. in drills, what to expect of men in the army and
their behaviour. but more importantly, look at the self ironed
uniform(that can stand by itself!), the shiny boots and the skinhead
sides! well thats me in my smartest 4 (the designation of the
uniform that is) so dont say you never see before... and the figure
behind is sergeant rocky, icon of the specialist crops.
hope that was a great introductory lesson about us specs!

national day

the good stuff always starts after lunch i say.
dragged myself to my pool after lazing in bed
for an hour since my alarm went off at 9.
man i'm darn tired after the 15klick run, i tried
to change the pace to improve my timing but
apparently it didnt work as well as i hoped.
perhapes i will have another 15k run to contrast
my old style with this. on the other hand i'm
quite happy because my pacing was perfect
i finished the run in 80mins. problem is i would
like to finish the 21 km in the same time so i think
i have a bit of an issue here. but any timing below
100mins should satisfy me. so after 20mins in
the pool relaxing my muscles, i accompanied mom
to fetch dad from the airport since hes gonna be
working in pakistan quite a lot in the coming times.
then i met lionel at 1.15 @ cityhall after a bit of
admin at home. the sporty guy won an $80
suntec voucher after coming in first in a vertical
marathon (and he attributes it 2 good genes, good
food and a good engine ;).
nothing caught our fancy
though. so we went to check out knives and fishing
tackle at arab street before heading to bugis.
its an interesting kind of life that many of us at
acjc do not readily embrace but the difference was
refreshing. oh well hope to see a good parade tonight.

now thats the kind of place we need to find and stay in to do
our travels on a shoestring? you dig my fun?
found it just beside bugis. heard that the kl chinatown is petaling.
but seems like we'll put if off coz we cant decide on the plan.
i'm on. bird, lionel you guys?

ade : check out the trinklets at the bugis village.

life in a box

the puma container shop. its the new roving stall concept.
well everything is getting smaller and smaller and hey,
that's good right? coz it would seem that the carrying
capacity of earth would be greater since we need less
and less space. now for a perfect example of how much
space we actually need ;)

how do you keep 5 guys happy on a bed in such a small space?
there! you can keep 5 guys, or any number who can
watch the tv screen comfortably in a very small space
happy with a playstation 2 and some good soccer games.
yes, army indeed! its the life! ord loh!
(and btw, that is a 21" tv with a dvd enabled ps2)
