because i'm a little tweaked

Its funny what the possession of 2 s-papers can do to your
normally level friends. and so i've been called tweaked by
a metrosexual. *fumes* but i guess since thats what i'm
known for, i'll just continue the part. its the simplest way to
justify any unknown.

restless 3 was entertaining especially with that cute couple
dance. that short girl was sooo cute! already i wonder if i can
get the cds to watch it again. i saw btcb over there and some
of my juniors from her batch. i saw liujun and raj, lucy and
betty too. (hope i got their names right) Quanda came along
and he was happy to watch it as well and experience AC
culture. after that we headed to holland village to meet the
people from sc10. bird, ade and jun were already waiting in
the hawker centre(not food court). so i figured that we could
go into coffee bean for some respite from the swealtering heat.
then came hazel and after an even longer time, shermaine.
luckily quanda didnt feel too left out though he was able to
talk more to shermaine about cheerobics.

It was an enjoyable time. and i think i'm better able to relate
to them especially since i'm getting on better terms with my
mom. but i figure that i'll always be the odd one out because
i think i'm the least likely to get in on any relationships while
maybe my mom's still alive. oh well. then i went to quanda's
place after that and i had a baileys and collected my 2 bottles
of spirits. and that ended friday and the week on a very high
note.

sat was fun as well. woke up around 0830 and went to barker
to teach the little boys how to play better badminton. they did.
i corrected their strokes. taught them footwork and strategy,
showed them some drills. i can see them improving. one went
on to beat the coach. then i went to the bookfair at suntec. it
was mainly chinese books. though i did see a berlitz spanish
workbook i didnt have the moolah to buy. i met linda there, and
told her that i couldnt contine my time suscribtion. she thanked
me for my time. promise kept, i went to meet jun in sogo. and
with her easygoing nature its always fun to be around her. I'm
heppy to meet chris and ade too. somehow its nice to see them
together even though they're not in a relationship(so i'm told)
coz i think chris really likes her lots and i like seeing people have
a good time. ( maybe one day i will return as sociable as i was in
barker but i doubt it) it gives me inspiration anyway. thankx for
the advice about shopping and the shoes. if i dont need to be
financially independent i would love to actually buy stuff with
you guys. but its not gonna happen till i ord.

Its great times and good people like this when i start to wonder if
my 'tweakedness' is more a strength or a liability. as said by kenneth,
independence is good but too much of it... human beings are designed
to be social, with instances of give and take. this dependence usually
seen as weakness from my point of view is also one way in which
people build bonds with each other. refusing to take, accept help,
ask for advice and doing things independently and being overly
self-reliant produces results but it makes you an island. because
the given perception through such actions is rejection nevermind the
intentions. few like the unknown and fewer like being rejected thus
this explains the factor...

then we met jon at the food court. haha. and i kept recounting my
episode with jianyong and kannan on the escalator. my sergeant
presence is so strong that they almost called me sergeant. sss.. ssi
i managed an easy 'hi' to take away the awkward situation. haha
man my ego is swelling at the thought of my influence. see guys,
i'm nice outside afterall ;) after the food. which was 2 very tasty
naans and a masala chicken we went to the bus stop. jun to go home
and ade and chris to watch x-men 3, jon went to meet his other army
friends and i went to kino. i finished a book so i guess it was time
well spent.

oh well, guess i'll continue explaining myself to myself. so at least
i'll be more understanding of their feelings and perceptions. I
owe them this much at least, that i can be better company in their
fantastic, interesting presence. Its not gonna be easy, but my choices
in life means that i shouldnt have it any other way.

too long ago to be fresh due to bad technology

well i got a suggestion on improving our education.
start with those who provide it. our teachers.
though problem is they are but victims of the same
system right? you get what you give?

i looked at the way i've been writing and i figured,
hey even my english isn't up to scratch, i mean ok,
excuse this blog being informal and all.but i noticed
that how i'm starting to talk and sound really doesn't
sound like i have a proper english education.
sad isn't it? is it just me or have i been in the army
a tad too long

back to what i actually intended to say. (hmm do i
notice a pattern here? i tend to digress, paint a
picture before going into the issue) excuse me once
again. keyboard humour. i propose the idea of
specialty libraries. though they have a general
selection of books but certain libraries could stock
more or perhapes books of greater depth on a certain
subject. (strongly hinting non-core languages here)
afterall every interested learner would like to have
such material to read and practise on. but i think
the main issue that we have to contend with is the
cost and who chooses what books to stock in that
particular language. well thats why this is only
a suggestion and if those who are interested in
hearing it can do something about it, then the saying
that when theres a will theses a way will prove true
once again.

in camp before guard duty tomorrow. 11/05/06

of looks, communication and the middleman

i picked up cervantes 900-1000 page novel yesterday,
don quixote de la mancha that is and i'm pretty entertained
so far. i've read the first 100 plus pages and i'm pretty amused
by his misadventures and his sorry state at the end of each
failed undertaking. i'm also tickled by the retorts of his
simpleton squire sancho, but the icing on the cake really is
how these misfortunes are of his own doing and how blind,
'seeking to emulate the greats' kind of idealism and wishful
thinking are portrayed as madness and how this 'madness'
is actually played out.
but this is again beside the point. just giving you guys a background
to my thoughts. so as it was commented abount in the book,
about the many languages encountered there, and that outcomes
may have been different if each character was well understood,
struck me as i was thinking about addressing the 'rise of china
and india' issue in the recently concluded election. and i think i have
1 suggestion on what we can initially do about this before we set
out furthur.
first (oh and this is just the formalities of the proposition) we have
the natural advantage of language and of greater development and
greater interaction with the rest of the world. although this is more
pronounced in the case of china than it is in india it is still and advantage
that can be capitalised on. and this big advantage plays itself very well
when we see that in the case of any developing power(and better still
if the people there see it in themselves as well, as people belonging to
one of the most powerful nations in future) there is a need in their human
spirit and egos to be recognised and respected. there is a want to be able
to have in advance what they can only have in future to be among people
that at this moment they can only emulate and will strive to their greatness
one day. and that is where we come in.
in all instances, what is most vital for anything emerging is communication.
yes, the most ruddimentry forms are there, satellites, phone networks,
electricity and transport(land, air and sea). though we can improve and
offer suggestions to run these networks we would not have the greatest
spin-offs in cash as we are control limited and capital outflows are more likely
since starting up will the the issue and it would take time to break even.
hence we(smaller entities lacking in the government arm and support will
never have the resources for that. and furthurmore since such large scale
and critical to the people projects would require us to cross much legal
formalities, the benefit of time is lost on us.) have to go in on our traditional
strong ground, namely being the middleman.
with our advantages we should stir up the latent interest of higher level
communications. the provision of language as well as lessons in etiquette
and manerisms to bridge the two gaps. image consultancies and advice on
conduct and bearing pertinent to what is the norm to other cultures could
make some money if marketed as being neccessary to be seen as superior
to the rest of the nation. the competitive and arrogant chinese should
oblige.
instead of being so upward looking, the issues that could have been brought
up could also be simpler by our candidates. there are many instances of
infrastructure that is lacking in these developing countries. providing a wide
network of basic services also cound work if singaporeans could lower their
expectations.
alright. till i write again
